DOOT! performs solo shows, duo shows, trio shows, quartet shows and ?tet shows. Formed around a core rhythm section, DOOT! features musicians in a setting conducive to strong grooves, group improvisation, and occasional tribute material. All musicians are involved in the "conceptual continuity" aspect of the group, whether it is a free improvisation set, or a rehearsed tribute to Frank Zappa. DOOT! is at once a performing entity, a long-term roving audio exhibit, performance art, and an entertainment vehicle. To prarphrase: "The modern day project refuses to be objectified"

We have been asked to describe DOOT! and we resort to describing some of our major influences: freebop, bebop, postbop, skronk, gamelan, serialist composition, musique concrete, funk, soul, and plain old rock. DOOT! merges concepts as far afield as sound design, free jazz, monster-movie soundtracks, arena rock, organ jazz, and javanese gamelan.

We have been described as "Last Exit with a softer touch" and "Sun Ra meets Sonic Youth". We have several compilation recordings available, as well as several live performance recordings and studio efforts. We also have a presence on MySpace that you might find helpful. Since the content of any given show is tailored to the venue and the performance group we hope that the recordings are taken as a whole, as opposed to being overtly predictave of any future performance.

DOOT! is able to provide PA system support, multitrack and stereo location recording, promotional support, security, jackbooted thugs, cosmic pandemonium... all the thing necessary for a successful live performance. We have played small clubs, large clubs, museums, libraries, european rock festivals, and semi-formal receptions. We are prepared to meet your audience *at least* halfway!
